How Bunnings Snagged the No.1 Online Retailer Spot
Power Retail named Bunnings Warehouse the No.1 Online Retailer at the 2021 All Star Bash, which took place last night at Palladium, Crown. How did the hardware giant snag the top spot this year?
For the first time in All Star Bash history, Bunnings took out the top spot as the No.1 Online Retailer in Australia, propelling itself ahead of Woolworths.
In a year that changed something for everyone and every business, Bunnings took the pandemic to increase its online offering. As one of the most recognised retailers in the country, Bunnings upped the ante during 2020 and launched a series of initiatives that helped solidify its spot as the No.1 Online Retailer in Australia.
At the start of 2020, Bunnings was third in the Rankings on the Power Retail Top 100. However, the pandemic propelled Bunnings to the leading spot, following months of enormous growth.
Throughout the year, the retailer introduced innovations and initiatives that helped drive it to the number one spot, including Drive & Collect, Product Finder App and fine-tuning its online offering. In June 2020, Roy Morgan consumer data named Bunnings as Australia’s Most Trusted Brand. “Bunnings keeps innovating and creating new connections with its customers. It’s a global retail case study,” explained Michele Levine, the CEO of Roy Morgan last year.
“In line with government restrictions across Australia and New Zealand, we made a number of changes to our store operations and moved at pace to fast-track our online offer with a fully transactional website offering both Click & Collect and Click & Deliver services,” Leah Balter, the Director of Digital told Power Retail.
The pandemic transformed customer behaviour, and when lockdown measures were implemented across the country, there was an added interest in home improvement products, gym equipment and cleaning products. “As customers’ needs evolved over the course of COVID-19 restrictions, we continued to adapt our business to meet demand for product categories such as protective equipment and cleaning goods, then home office and gym equipment through our MarketLink offer followed by home improvements, garden maintenance and renewed interest in DIY,” Balter explained.
