Partners With Afterpay

Need a holiday pronto? No dramas – book your flight on and pay for it later, thanks to Jetstar’s new partnership with payment platform Afterpay.

The “buy now, pay later” phenomenon has now found its way into the airline industry. Australian passengers can now pay off their local flights in installments following Jetstar’s new sign up with payment platform Afterpay.

Afterpay is now available for bookings made online at for all Australian domestic flights which carries the Afterpay logo.

The deal makes Jetstar the first Australian airline with this offering for its online customers. Domestic travelers (must be Australian citizens) can pay for their flights in fortnightly installments for tickets priced between $200 and $1,000 and booked “ at least two months in advance of the first departing flight on the booking”.

“Afterpay customers must pay for their booking in 4 equal fortnightly payments, with the first installment due at the time of booking,” the company advises on its website.

The payment system can, however, be extended to international flights, according to Jetstar Group’s chief executive, Jayne Hrdlicka, which will make global travel much more accessible for a lot of Australians who are cash strapped.

“Our mission at Jetstar is to offer low fares to enable more people to fly to more places, more often. Partnering with Afterpay gives our customers the option to lock in low fares at today’s prices and pay over time, even during our sales,” says Hrdlicka.

“Many of Jetstar’s customers are already use Afterpay to purchase items at various retailers and are familiar with the flexibility of paying over time.”

To take advantage of the new offering, online customers must choose a fare on Jetstar’s website and choose the Afterpay payment option, which accompanies a $10 service fee.
